Introduction
One of the most exciting parts of having a new puppy is shopping for cute outfits. But just because they’re so small doesn’t mean they can’t look stylish in their own way. Here are some things you should never buy your dog:
Leather jacket
- Leather is bad for dogs. Did you know that? The reason why it’s so dangerous is because it’s not breathable and not waterproof. So, when your pup gets hot, they can’t cool themselves off like humans can by sweating through their skin and pores. When they get cold, they don’t have any way of keeping themselves warm except shivering and huddling up into a ball—and those are both very uncomfortable!
- Leather jackets are also hard to clean if they get dirty while your dog is playing outside or on walks around town. Imagine if a piece of food got stuck in your jacket; how would you get that out without ruining the material?
Waterproof boots
You may have noticed that many dog jackets, especially those for breeds with double coats like Huskies or Pomeranians, come with a flap of fabric at the bottom to cover their feet. This is called a “boot” and it has become somewhat of an industry standard. However, this type of shoe is bad for your dog!
Why? Well first of all they’re not waterproof, so they don’t do anything to protect your dog’s paws from snow or ice. They also tend to be very heavy and bulky which makes them uncomfortable for dogs who are active—who wants to wear boots all day? Lastly because these shoes only cover half the leg most dogs wear them only when going out in the winter–meaning they don’t get any exercise during warmer months where there’s no need for boots anyway!
Raincoat
- Raincoats are not waterproof.
- Puppy coats are not breathable.
- Puppy coats are not windproof.
- Puppy coats are not insulated.
Dog purse
While a dog purse may be cute, it isn’t worth the trouble of having your pet caged up, unable to move or do its business. You wouldn’t keep a baby in a cage, so why would you do so with your puppy?
If you’re going out somewhere with your pup and need someplace for them to ride along in the car (or other vehicle), consider getting them their own seat belt harness. It’s safer for everyone involved and allows your dog more freedom than being trapped inside a bag!
Sweater with a hoodie
Sweaters with hoodies are a super cute idea for your dog, but you should definitely not buy one. They can be too hot for dogs and even lead to overheating and heat stroke (which is very serious). If you’re looking for something to keep your pup warm in the wintertime, try buying them a coat or jacket instead of a sweater with a hoodie.
Turtleneck sweater
Turtlenecks are the most popular style of shirt for people, and if you’re looking for a way to dress up your pup in a sophisticated manner, this may seem like a good route. But trust me: it’s not. No dog should ever be forced into wearing anything that restricts their movement, much less something that could potentially cut off their circulation or cause them harm when they wriggle around too much (if they’re supposed to have any at all). Plus, turtlenecks aren’t even particularly warm! It’s just not worth it.
Winter jacket for cold weather
Winter jackets are an option for your dog if you live in a cold climate, but they’re not required for all dogs. If you exercise with your dog regularly and expose them to the elements often, including snow and rain, then a winter jacket might be an unnecessary expense.
However, if you live in an area where it gets very cold during the winter and snow or ice is common on the ground for long periods of time, then a lightweight and breathable winter jacket could be a good idea for your pup. Winter jackets should also be waterproof and windproof so that they keep out moisture while protecting against chilly winds as well as keeping heat inside their bodies.
It’s important to note that there are many different types of materials used in creating these types of products—you’ll want to choose one made out of materials that are comfortable on your pet’s skin (and yours) without being too heavy or stiff when worn outside in freezing temperatures.
Dog sunglasses
Dogs can’t see colors, and so the world to them is a black-and-white one. Therefore, dog sunglasses are unnecessary.
While you may think that sunglasses make your pup feel cool and trendy, they don’t actually need to be able to see better in order to function properly. If you have a problem with preventing your dog from tearing up their eyes when they go out in the sun or wind, then consider getting them quality eye cream instead of sunglasses.
There are things you shouldn’t buy your puppy
You’ll be surprised to learn that there are actually some things you should never buy your puppy.
- Leather jacket: Your pup will think that they are a cool stud, but in reality it will not look good on them at all.
- Waterproof boots: If you’re going to go with any type of shoes for your dog, make sure it’s something more stylish like sneakers or even a pair of boots that don’t look too much like what people wear when they go hiking in the woods (which is another thing people do all the time).
- Raincoat: If you want to get your pet a raincoat, just know that it will most likely end up being destroyed by their nails and teeth within an hour of putting it on them. So, just don’t bother getting one at all really because there really isn’t anything good about them anyway except maybe if they’re pink and sparkly then maybe I could see why someone would want one…but even then I wouldn’t recommend doing so because who wants their dog looking like a disco ball? No one! That’s who..
Conclusion
You don’t want to go overboard when it comes to buying clothes for your puppy. They’re dogs, after all! While they might be able to pull off some outfits better than you can (look at that leather jacket!), there are also some things you should avoid giving them. We hope this list has been helpful in guiding your decision-making process on what clothing options are best for your pet’s needs.
