Introduction
If you’re the owner of a big cat, you know that keeping them healthy and happy is a full-time job. Big cats have specific dietary needs that can’t be met with the same kinds of food that domestic cats eat. So what do you do? If you’re looking for some ideas on what to feed your big cat, I’ve got the answers here!
meat
Meat is a good source of protein, iron, and calcium. Meat can also be a good source of vitamin B12 if you feed your cat fish. Beef, pork, chicken, and fish are all acceptable meat sources for big cats. Avoid raw meat or meat that has been cooked at high temperatures for more than 10 minutes because this can lead to food poisoning in cats (and humans).
fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are great for big cats. They provide vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients that help your cat stay healthy. The best part is that they’re low in calories and fat.
Here are some examples of fruits and vegetables that you might want to try:
- Apples – High in fiber but low on calories (about 50 calories per medium-sized apple)
- Carrots – Rich in vitamin A
- Celery – Although very high in sodium (more than 600 milligrams per cup), celery is still one of my favorite treats because it has so much flavor!
whole grains
Whole grains are a good source of protein and other nutrients. They’re also low in fat, high in fiber, and contain some vitamins and minerals. This makes them a great choice for overweight cats.
foods to avoid
- Chocolate
- Sugar
- Caffeine
- Alcohol
- Onions and garlic (you might think they’re safe because they’re not sweet, but cats’ taste buds don’t differentiate between them and other foods)
water
Cats need water just as much as humans do, but the type of water they drink should be different from what you drink.
- Do not give your cat water from the toilet! This is because it may have chemicals in it that can make your cat sick.
- Do not give your cat water from the sink, or any other faucet for that matter! The same goes for faucets in other rooms of your house; if you see a little bit of fur floating on top, it means there’s probably something about this particular batch of drinking water that makes cats sick.
- There’s nothing wrong with giving cats baths—they actually enjoy them! Just make sure no strange substances (like anything found in one’s own toilet) are going into their mouths while bathing them because these things might make their stomachs hurt later on down the line.”
Takeaway:
The takeaway here is that there are plenty of foods that you can feed your cat that they will love. However, there are also some foods that your cat should never be given and others where moderation is key.
